Work Desk

Digital businesses survive and thrive through the use of technology, and because there are so many options out there, it’s important to know which tools will have the greatest impact on your business. I’ve curated a list of my favorite tools and resources. I use each one of these tools in my business daily and regularly recommend them to my clients.

Shopify | E-Commerce Platform

There are plenty of e-commerce website platforms out there, but without a doubt, the most versatile and user-friendly is Shopify. From its vast template library to almost limitless customization options, it’s simple to ensure your Shopify site’s aesthetics are consistent with your brand. And Shopify’s user friendly admin can be managed easily by e-commerce pros and newcomers alike.

Whether you’re looking for a DIY solution for your start-up or a custom solution that will scale easily as your business grows, Shopify is the platform for you.

Adobe Creative Cloud | Graphic Design

No matter what your business offers, you’re bound to need high quality creative materials regularly. The Adobe suite of products are my go-to creative tools, and I use them daily. From designing printed materials in Adobe Illustrator to retouching and compressing product photos in Adobe Photoshop to designing motion graphics in Adobe After Effects, there really is an Adobe program for every creative need.

Asana | Project Management

The day I started using Asana, I breathed a sigh of relief. Running a business is an intense process, and the amount of tasks that pop up in a single day can be overwhelming. Asana allows you to set up projects and teams to fit your exact needs, keep up with tasks that need your attention, and more. If you’re looking for efficiency and time savings, look no further than Asana.

Even better? You can use Asana’s free tier as long as you’d like!

Slack | Communication

Slack is instant messaging reinvented. Of course, it’s a great way to communicate quickly with members of your internal team, but it’s more than that. Slack has integrations available for a wide range of other programs (many of which are mentioned in this list) meaning that you can stay connected and up to date without needing to regularly check multiple tabs for new information.

Later | Social Media Management

Managing and staying present on social media can be overwhelming and time-consuming. Thankfully, Later has a well-built, user-friendly platform that allows you to plan, write, and schedule posts to all of your social media channels in one convenient place. I’m especially fond of its feed preview for Instagram, which allows you to see how posts will look in your feed and rearrange them as needed.

G Suite | Communication & File Sharing

Google’s suite of cloud-based programs are a perfect fit for any business. Add a professional touch to your external communications with branded email addresses, share and collaborate on files in Google Drive, stay on track and boost productivity with Google Calendar, and more.

Quickbooks Self-Employed | Accounting

Bookkeeping and accounting can be some of the most challenging parts of running a small business (especially when you’re acting as your own accountant.) Quickbooks Self-Employed makes it quick and easy to manage spending, send invoices, receive payments, and do your taxes. It’s a simple tool that will make a significant impact on your finances.

Mailchimp | Email Marketing

If you aren’t gathering an email list on your site - start now! Engaging your audience through email can play a critical role in your marketing plan and impact your sales significantly.

I choose Mailchimp and recommend it to my clients because: it’s free tier goes a long way, it’s incredibly user friendly, it has high deliverability rates, and it provides a quick and easy solution for creating and sending single emails, automations, drip campaigns, and more.

SEMrush | SEO Planning & Monitoring

SEMrush is arguably the most robust SEM/SEO tool on the market today. Whether you’re looking to research high-performing keywords, monitor your competition, generate content ideas, track your site’s search engine rankings, or audit your existing content for improvement opportunities, SEMrush is the perfect solution.

Because the system is so robust, there may be a steep learning curve, but I would recommend this program to any company that has a solid foundation in SEO and is ready to improve on that foundation.
